Today, councillors approved plans to repair a section of the A472 where it crosses the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal.

The bridge requires significant repairs to strengthen it and ensure it remains safe for motorists and residents using the canal.

It is estimated the work will take up to 16 weeks and will require roadworks to be installed on the bypass where it crosses the canal basin at Pontymoile.

Councillor Mandy Owen, Executive Member for the Environment, said: “Officers will be working hard with the contractors to ensure that repairs to the bridge, and associated works to the road are carried out to minimise disruption and inconvenience to the travelling public and local communities alike.”

Full details will be shared once finalised by the successful contractor.
