Foundry Road tree felling update

Posted on: Friday 22 March 2024

We would like to inform residents that the necessary felling of diseased Ash trees, and other trees posing a risk to the highway along Foundry Road, Abersychan, have been successfully completed.

We acknowledge that the unanticipated extension to this essential work has caused additional inconvenience, and for that, we sincerely apologise.

Our initial projection was to complete this task within two weeks. However, during the process, our contractors discovered additional unstable trees that posed a risk to the highways. The removal of these trees extended the duration of the work beyond our initial estimate.

In addition to removing these unstable trees, the contractor experienced greater than expected challenges working in close proximity to overhead power cables, also having to work around a parked vehicle which couldn’t be moved.

In regards to the space left by the felled trees, we will be carrying out a site survey at the end of summer to see what natural regeneration has occurred.

If there isn’t enough natural regeneration taking place, then a planting scheme will be designed to restock the area. A variety of species will be replanted including, blackthorn, hawthorn, cherry , field maple and rowan all of which are indigenous to this country.

Once again we apologise for the inconvenience and your understanding during this essential works.
