Why we chose this dish
Our Pupil’s Choice
"They were really good, I really like them!" Holly, Nant Celyn
Our Dietitian’s Choice
We work hard to listen to our pupils and offer choices that suit a range of preferences. These delicious vegetable nuggets provide a popular meat-free option that can be enjoyed as part of a balanced diet, without pupils needing to commit to a fully vegetarian menu.
Made from a blend of carrots, sweetcorn, green beans, cauliflower and potato, and coated in a crispy breadcrumb, they contribute a variety of vegetables to the meal while providing a source of fibre. The nuggets are also low in saturated fat, making them a nutritious alternative that doesn't compromise on taste.
Our chips are always oven baked, helping to limit the amount of added fat while still providing the carbohydrate-rich energy pupils need to stay active and focused throughout the day.
Served with 2 portions of vegetables, this meal helps increase vegetable intake and supports pupils in working towards their 5-a-day target. Colourful, tasty and satisfying, it's a great example of how nutritious food can be both enjoyable and flexible.
Sustainable School Meals
Lower Carbon Choice
As part of our commitment to sustainable school meals, the greenhouse gas emissions associated with all of our recipes have been assessed using methodology developed by researchers at the University of Edinburgh. Based on these calculations, this dish has one of the lowest carbon footprints of any main meal on our menu.
Choosing meals with a lower environmental impact can help reduce the overall carbon footprint of the food we eat while still providing the nutrition children need to grow, learn and thrive. For pupils interested in making more sustainable food choices, this meal is a great place to start.
