Torfaen Council has been named Council of the Year at the Association for Public Service Excellence Awards.
The council scooped the top award after being shortlisted for 4 individual awards, including the energy team, who won the Best Innovation or Demand Management Initiative for the Ty Blaen and Panteg Industrial Estate Project.
The team was also shortlisted for the Best Community and Neighbourhood Initiative for its work supporting community buildings, local businesses and residents across the borough to reduce energy use, cut carbon emissions and lower costs.
Organisations involved in the project highlighted the value of the council's support in helping them access funding, identify opportunities, implement improvements and connect with other organisations, demonstrating how partnership working can deliver lasting benefits for communities.
The Environmental Operations Team was shortlisted for Best Service Team of the Year for its nature-friendly approach to managing parks, green spaces and roadside verges, supported by the Environmental Policy Team.
The Environmental Policy Team was also shortlisted for Best Climate Action or Decarbonisation Initiative for its peatland restoration work.
A fifth entry from the School Catering and Play showcased inclusive Food and Fun holiday provision for children. Although it was not shortlisted, it highlighted the excellent work taking place across the organisation.
The winners were announced at the APSE annual Charity Awards Dinner, in aid of Parkinson’s UK, on Thursday 17 September 2026 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Liverpool.
