A woman whose family was supported following her son's murder has set up community group to help others.

Sandra Keen's son Duane, 47, was killed by another man in a flat in Blaenavon last October.

In the wake of Duane's death, Sandra began campaigning for more to be done to ensure people are rehoused appropriately.

She also set up Blaenavon Community Voice to support people who need advice or a helping hand, and to support vulnerable residents.

Sandra, pictured bottom right, said: "The local community gave my family and I such fantastic support after Duane was killed and I just want to give something back.

"When I was asked if I would become a community leader, I put my ideas down on paper and worked with the council's Communities team and Torfaen Voluntary Alliance to set the group up.

"We now run a social cafe in different locations around the town once a month where people can come and talk to different organisations like Citizens' Advice, the police, and the council in confidence.

"We also run men's and women's weekly groups and we're hoping to launch a teenagers cafe in the New Year.

"Blaenavon is such a close knit community and I just want to bring a little hope to other people in the same way they did for us."

The group has been given a £3,300 Housing Support Grant to help with set up costs and has recently been awarded £300 from Blaenavon Town Council to make 100 winter packs for vulnerable adults and children.

They will be supporting the Friends of Green's Christmas tree event on Friday November 28, and are planning a Blaenavon's Got Talent event in the spring.
