Local area information from the WIMD Child Index 2011

The Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation (WIMD) 2011: Child Index is the official measure of relative deprivation for small areas in Wales for children, and was published by the Welsh Government's Statistical Directorate alongside the main WIMD on 31 August 2011.

The indicators included in the Child Index are focused on the child population and the types of deprivation which might be expected to affect children. The Child Index is made up of seven separate 'domains' of deprivation, weighted as shown:

  • Income (35.3% of the overall Child Index)
  • Health (17.1%)
  • Education, skills, and training (17.1%)
  • Geographical access to services (12.2%)
  • Housing (6.1%)
  • Physical environment (6.1%)
  • Community safety (6.1%)

Note: unlike the main WIMD, an Employment domain is not included in the Child Index.
