Litter and Fly-tipping Prevention

The council spends more than £1.36m every year clearing up litter and fly-tipping in public areas.

To help reduce the problem – and cost of dealing with – litter and fly-tipping, the council has a Litter and Fly-Tipping Prevention Strategy, which sets out commitments to:

  • Keep the borough clean and free of litter.
  • Support residents to improve the appearance of their local community.
  • To deter people from littering, fly-tipping or allowing their dogs to foul in public areas.

Litter and Fly-Tipping Prevention Officer

Oliver James works with community groups, businesses and local partners tackle the problem of litter, fly-tipping, dumped trolleys and dog mess in their local areas.

Working with Keep Wales Tidy, he is looking to increase the number of Litter Picking Hubs and Litter Free Zones in the borough. More information on these initiatives can be found at www.keepwalestidy.cymru.

He also runs the Torfaen annual spring clean and supports volunteers and groups in Torfaen who litter pick. If you are interested in litter picking opportunities, then please email oliver.james@torfaen.gov.uk.
