The purpose of these provisions is to provide staffed play opportunities for children in the absence of their parents. Children are not restricted in their movements, other than where related to safety matters and are not prevented from coming and going as and when they wish. Children have the freedom of choice as to what range of play activity they wish to undertake and with whom they play. With the above in mind, please note it is not a childcare provision.
All children under the age of 8 must be dropped off and collected by a responsible adult.
If your child needs support to attend a Play Club or for further information please contact the Play Team.
Specialist Provision
The play service provides 1-1 support for children with disabilities and behavioural needs to attend community play provision. Over 160 children are provided with 1-1 support each year. By working together with partners, play staff are trained to provide both personal care and support to children with varying needs. Support is provided to children aged 5+ to attend play clubs, playschemes and specialist play projects. To register your child for 1-1 play support please complete the 1-1 Play Support Application Form and return it andrea.sysum@torfaen.gov.uk or alternatively return the form by post to Torfaen Play Service, Old Abersychan Library , Brynteg, Abersychan NP4 7BG.
The following play sessions are specifically for children and young people with disabilities. Prior booking is essential. Please contact 01495 742951 for further information.
Weekend Respite Provision - A number of weekend respite sessions run. These include weekly sessions at Glenside Community Hall, Victory Church and the Cockerel (St Dials and Greenmeadow Community Hall). All these sessions can only be accessed via referral only.
Dad and Me Forum
We run a monthly forum for Dads (male carers) and their children. The session runs the first Saturday in every month from The ICC, off Ton Road, Hollybush, Cwmbran from 10:00 - 11:30. The sessions allow Dads (male carers) to spend quality play time with their children and a chance to meet other Dads.
