A pupil prom committee is hoping local businesses can help with them celebrate the end of their GCSE exams in style.
It will be the first time the Croesyceiliog Comprehensive School prom has been organised by pupils, who will be arranging a series of fundraising events over the next few months.
The Student Leadership Team met before Christmas to finalise the arrangements, which include appealing to local businesses to support a fundraising fete.
They are also appealing for donations of prom dresses, accessories, and shoes to ensure all pupils are able to enjoy the event.
Prom committee member Fearne Spear, who is in Year 11, said: “We feel privileged to be able to do this for the other pupils and we’re excited to see it all come together. Not everyone gets to experience what it is like to plan a big event.”
Savannah Douglas, who is also part of the committee, added: “It’s a time to enjoy a journey that has come to an end, giving us the opportunity to celebrate with friends and start of the next chapter of our lives on a high.”
The prom committee has arranged for the prom to be held at the Parkway Hotel in Cwmbran on Friday 5th July.
The team of 12 pupils is planning to hold bake sales and a prom fayre to raise money for the event and students are being asked to suggest ideas for the big day.
The committee is hoping for local businesses or business owners who used to go to the school can support the prom fayre by giving donations or having a stall.
Natalie Price, Director of Wellbeing for year 10 and 11 said: “The committee has used their break times to gather student opinion to ensure they are making decisions in the interest of the year group and from this have a very clear picture of what they would like the prom to be.
“They are aware of the cost implications of the prom and are working hard to offset as much as possible via fundraising events to make the evening a very special celebration and a memorable night that the year group will cherish for years to come.”
Natalie Richards, Croesyceiliog Headteacher, added: “It’s brilliant that the school has been able to support the students so well in the organising of the prom. It’s important for me as a headteacher, for year 11’s to celebrate their school years, celebrate and make special memories.”
