A new play facility to support parents and children under the age of eleven has been opened today at Pontypool Civic Centre.

Run by Torfaen Council’s Play Service, 'Civic Play will host several provisions including Lego clubs, family play, dad’s groups, disability groups and young carers play club.

A creche will also be available for parents who are attending training in the building.

Civic Play is located on Floor 1 of Civic Centre and will be open at set times across the week.

To be eligible, families need to be referred to the Play Service through existing support network such as Families First or Torfaen Early Years.

Self-referrals can also be made by emailing the play team directly at torfaenplay@torfaen.gov.uk

Executive Member for Children, Families and Education, Cllr Richard Clark, said: “This is the first time the council has offered this kind of service at Civic Centre and it forms part of an expansion of play provisions already being offered across the county borough.”

“These provisions are a key part of our county plan’s wellbeing objectives, offering children the best possible start in life. By investing in our children’s early years, we are setting the foundation for a healthier, happier, and more successful future for our entire community.”
