Croesycast podcast award
A school podcast featuring Welsh celebrities has been nominated for an award.

CroesyCast was launched by a group of Year 7 pupils from Croesyceiliog Comprehensive School last year. Since then, they have interviewed Charlotte Church, opera singer Katherine Jenkins, Hollywood actor Luke Evans, the First Minister of Wales, Mark Drakeford, as well as staff and pupils.

CroesyCast has also supported Torfaen Council’s #NotInMissOut campaign, which has proved to demonstrate the opportunities on offer for pupils who attend school regularly.  CroesyCast has now been nominated for an Arts, Culture & Heritage Award by TVA, for their achievements in the media industry.

Teacher Will Boardman, who helps produce of CroesyCast, said “I feel incredibly proud of the CroesyCast team. They are all brilliant young people and excellent role models to the rest of the school. They progress and development they have made in one year is outstanding. They all thoroughly deserve this nomination”.

A student team member of CroesyCast, Hannah said: “When I found out that CroesyCast had been nominated, I felt surprised and privileged. I really didn’t expect it. I’m really looking forward to the experience of attending the award ceremony”.

Natalie Richards, Headteacher at Croesyceiliog, added: “All last year this became my highlight on my drives to school. I’m incredibly proud of the hard work, the talent and achievement of our students. To me they are already winners”.

Councillor Richard Clark, Executive Member for Children, Families and Education, said: "It’s great to see students branching out from their curriculum to explore and develop new skills and knowledge. They will have learnt a lot from the process as well as had the chance to speak to such inspiring and successful people."

Croesycast is just one of the extra-curricular activities at Croesyceiliog Comprehensive School aimed at encouraging pupils to attend school regularly and get the most out of their education. You can find out more by following @CroesyCast on Twitter and searching for #NotInMissOut.
