The Local Government Pension Scheme

The Greater Gwent (Torfaen) Pension Scheme is an appropriate occupational pension scheme for employees of local authorities and certain other public sector related bodies in the Greater Gwent area. This does not apply to uniformed police or fire brigade officers, teachers and lecturers who have separate schemes which apply to them.

The scheme is paid for out of contributions paid by employees and their employers. The pension benefits which we pay out of the Fund are mainly decided by legislation and not by the local authorities. The Fund is a defined benefit scheme that is protected by law. The benefits are related to final pay and period of service.
