Litter and Fly-tipping Strategy
Litter is a significant problem in Torfaen and a concern for much of our population. As an approximate estimate, the Council currently spends more than £1.36M per annum cleaning up litter and fly-tipping in public areas. Consequently, we have prepared a litter and fly-tipping strategy in partnership with our residents and partner organisations, in accordance with the Council’s ‘Clean and Green’ corporate priority. The forward in the strategy recognises that:
'Every pound of taxpayers money spent clearing up after people who dump rubbish in our countryside, drop litter on our streets or let their dogs foul in our parks is a pound that could have been invested in our schools, enhancing our open spaces or caring for people in need'.
The strategy will help deliver the following corporate plan commitments:
- We will keep the borough clean and free of litter
- We will support residents working to improve the appearance of their local community
- We will expect residents not to litter, fly tip or allow their dogs to foul in public areas
