Road Safety Advice for Cyclists

Cycling is increasing in popularity. Cyclists have every right to use the road but as a vulnerable group, cyclists should take sensible precautions to keep themselves safe when sharing the road with motor vehicles. Cyclists should be familiar with the section of the Highway Code on cycling. Motorists are advised to always look twice for cyclists and pedestrians, indicate intentions and give cyclists plenty of space.

Torfaen has several motor vehicle free off road ‘cycle’ routes e.g. along the canal tow path. These are shared routes and cyclists should be considerate of other users and abide by the Torfaen Cycling Code of Conduct when encountering pedestrians, mobility scooters etc.
