Road Safety Resources - Year 6 Moving on to Secondary School

The transition for pupils moving from primary school to secondary school can be a tricky one. This has been made even more difficult this year as year 6 children have been unable to attend moving up days, open evenings etc. to find out all about their new school.

During the summer term many Year 6 pupils would normally be visited by Torfaen’s Road Safety Officer. The pupils take part in a lesson designed to get them thinking about how to make sure they stay as safe as possible on their new journey to and from secondary school and start planning for it. As these sessions have not been able to take place this year, the information has been put into a downloadable PowerPoint Presentation and Activity Booklet. It is really important to plan ahead and make sure children are equipped with the skills and knowledge they will need to stay safe on or near a road, particular as many have missed out on practicing these skills over the last few months. Also it may be helpful to check if the school have any proposed social distancing procedures in place for September that could impact children’s journey to and from school or how they access the building.
