Proposed changes to Hackney Carriage fares

Posted on: Thursday 29 September 2022

Torfaen Council has received a request from the Hackney Carriage trade to increase their fares. Hackney Carriages are the black taxis that can be hired on the taxi ranks in Torfaen or be hailed in the street, and use a meter system to work out the cost of a journey.

The last increase to Hackney Carriage fares was in December 2018, and since then fuel prices, minimum wages and the cost of living have increased. Fees charged by private hire taxis have also increased.

The proposal by the trade is to increase fares by 20% percent for both Tariff 1 and Tariff 2 journeys.
