Fishing now banned on two stretches of canal

Posted on: Thursday 4 November 2021

Following recent public consultation, fishing is now banned at any time on the canal at Broadweir Road and Star Street in Cwmbran, due to continuous unlicenced fishing and antisocial behaviour.

Councillor Mandy Owen, Executive Member for the Environment, said: “It’s such a shame it has come to this especially for those who fish responsibly”.

“As a council we have a duty of care to safeguard our communities and wildlife.

“Anyone caught fishing or acting in an anti-social manner can now be fined by either the Council’s Civil Enforcement Officers or Gwent Police Community Support Officers, due to the current Public Space Protection Order being updated.”
