Welsh Medium Childcare Development at Ysgol Panteg

Posted on: Wednesday 19 May 2021

Building works will begin later this month on the Ysgol Panteg primary school site in which a new Welsh Medium childcare provision will be located.

Welsh Government Childcare Offer Capital funding was granted to develop Welsh Medium childcare in the Panteg area, after the last full Childcare Sufficiency Assessment, as well as local demand, has shown a need within the community. The proposal would encompass childcare for children aged 2-12, including wrap around, breakfast club, after school and holiday childcare for the purposes of long term sustainability.

The primary purpose of the capital programme is to facilitate and support the co-location of the Foundation Phase and childcare provision on the same site wherever possible.

This is a first in a small number of Childcare Offer capital builds and is an exciting opportunity for childcare providers to tender for childcare on the school site. This particular new build is in line with Welsh Governments vision of a million Welsh speakers by 2050.

Head of Learning, Julian Doroszczuk states “We are working closely with the school community as well as Mudiad Meithrin and look forward to developing more Welsh Medium childcare within the Local Authority and welcome providers to apply”.

Torfaen Executive Member for Education, Councillor Richard Clark said, “"This is very much welcomed news and presents a fantastic opportunity for local childcare providers to increase the number of Welsh Medium childcare places in Torfaen. Based on local demand this no doubt will also benefit a number of families who require such provision."

Applications can be made online until Noon 14th June Invitation to provide a full Welsh Medium day care childcare provision based at the new Ysgol Panteg School in Pontypool Torfaen - Find a Tender (find-tender.service.gov.uk)
