Civic Centre will be plunged into darkness on Saturday to raise awareness of the need to tackle global environmental issues.
Torfaen Council will be supporting WWF’s Earth Hour at 8.30pm by switching off lights at its central offices, in Pontypool, and it’s calling on local residents to do the same.
Previously lights at iconic landmarks around the world, including the Wales Millennium Stadium, the Eiffel Tower and the Sydney Opera House, have been switched off as part of the event.
This year the focus is on individual households and the difference communities can make if everyone switches off non-essential lights for one hour.
Torfaen Council Executive Member for Environment Cllr Mandy Owen said: “We strongly encourage local communities and partners in Torfaen to join the global lights out event for Earth Hour on Saturday.
“Joining the big switch off reminds us that even small actions can make a big difference.”
