Torfaen Play Service are currently looking for volunteers aged 16 years and over to support a number of Play and Wellbeing Camps this summer.

The Play and Wellbeing Camps will run from Monday 26 July until Thursday 19 August and will take place at various primary schools across the borough.

Camps will feature a range of play activities, all linked to the ‘5 ways to wellbeing’, and will encourage children to be physically active, build self-esteem and increase positive mental health and resilience.

All volunteers will participate in training and will be provided with a placement, where they will gain valuable experience of working with children and young people.

Working as part of a team, volunteers will be provided with the opportunity to develop skills and learn new skills in a safe, welcoming and fun environment.

There will also be opportunities to become a ‘play buddy’ - supporting children with additional needs.

As a summer volunteer with Torfaen Play, what support will I receive?

  • All volunteers will receive an accredited qualification in playwork and Safeguarding as well as opportunities to complete First Aid and Food Hygiene qualifications.
  • References for future job opportunities, colleges and university placements.
  • Supported placements for the Welsh Baccalaureate, College, University and work experience.
  • Daily expenses for food and travel
  • All volunteers will receive an invitation to the  Annual Volunteers Awards Ceremony where we celebrate their success
  • Volunteers will be consulted regularly, to hear and act upon their views and opinions to shape the future of the Play Service.

Torfaen Executive Member for Children, Families and Communities, Cllr Fiona Cross said, “Volunteering has been shown to increase happiness and personal wellbeing, and can help to further develop social skills, inspire new interests and hobbies and is a brilliant way to gain life experience.

It can also help forge new friendships by bringing together a diverse range of people from all backgrounds and walks of life.

If you’re looking for a fun and exciting challenge this summer, then please get in touch with our Play Service team to find out more about our wellbeing camps or apply online today.”
