The workshops will introduce building owners to the importance of, and reasons for heritage building conservation, detail the methods and benefits of heritage building repair, maintenance and management.

Gareth Davies, Chair of the Townscape Heritage Board, said: “It is encouraging to see the opportunity for residents and building owners to join workshops that will help them to understand, appreciate and maintain their properties, Blaenavon's townscape is an important part of the Heritage value of the World Heritage Site.”

The Townscape Heritage Programme (THP) is a £1.9m partnership approach that aims to make improvements to the built historic environment of conservation areas whilst ensuring there are positive outcomes for the built environment and the communities that engage with it. The work undertaken by the THP has been achieved with the aid of £1.2 million in Heritage Lottery Funding.

Councillor Joanne Gauden of Torfaen County Borough Council, said: “Part of the Townscape Heritage Programme is providing Blaenavon residents with knowledge of heritage building conservation. This is an exciting opportunity to empower local people through knowledge provision and skill building, and will help maintain the town centre for future generations.”
