Torfaen Libraries Summer Reading Challenge goes Wild

Posted on: Thursday 1 July 2021

The annual Summer Reading Challenge is back, and this year it’s going Wild.

With free access to books, and creative activities, the Summer Reading Challenge is a great way to keep children reading throughout the summer holidays.

Throughout the duration of the challenge, Torfaen Libraries will help children discover new authors and illustrators, encouraging them to explore a wide range of books and ways of reading.

You can visit your local library to sign up for this year’s challenge from Saturday 10 July and the theme is ‘Wild World Heroes’. Each child will receive a Wild World Heroes collector poster, collecting special stickers as they read to complete their poster along with extra rewards. There is even a mini challenge for very little readers.

At the heart of the Summer Reading Challenge is children choosing and sharing books of their choice, in any format. Novels, fact books, picture books, graphic novels, joke books, eBooks and audiobooks all count towards completing the challenge.

Keen readers who complete the challenge will be presented with a medal, and be in with a chance of winning a special prize.

There will also be an official website, containing author videos, games and more for children to enjoy all summer.

Councillor Joanne Gauden, Executive Member for Economy, Skills and Regeneration, said: “Reading is such an important life skill for all children to have, and making it fun is a great way to encourage children to continue reading throughout their childhood,

“The Summer Reading Challenges are always fun and engaging, so I’m encouraging all parents and carers to sign their children up this July.
