A phased return to school in Torfaen

Posted on: Friday 12 February 2021

The Welsh Government’s Minister for Education has announced that schools will be reopening to children in Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and 2 after half term from the week commencing the 22nd of February.

All schools in Torfaen are now planning and preparing for the new measures that will be in place prior to schools reopening. The new measures include regular testing of school staff and the requirement for all staff to wear face masks in school, including in classrooms.

There is no requirement for the younger children to wear face coverings in school at this time.

During this partial return to school it is vital that all parents and carers remember that they can help schools and our whole community by continuing to follow public health guidance.

  • only one adult wearing a face covering should drop and collect children
  • maintain social distancing at all times and take children straight home after school
  • keep children home if they are unwell and if anyone in the home are waiting on test results.

Children of critical workers and vulnerable children who have been attending will continue with face to face learning in school.
