Waste update

Posted on: Friday 24 December 2021

Just as a reminder, our waste and recycling crews are working every day over the Christmas period so your collection days remain the same.

However, we’re currently experiencing high levels of sickness absence from the team due to positive covid-19 cases, staff isolating while they wait for PCR results and some general sickness.

Given the extra waste put out over Christmas, this could result in disruption to some collection rounds.

Over the coming days and weeks we expect the levels of sickness absence to fluctuate but we expect it is only likely to increase which could create further pressures on the team and create further disruption to our services.

Please leave missed containers out and we will attempt to return as soon as possible and as a general rule we will always prioritise purple lidded bin collections (general waste) and food collections.

Over this period we have redeployed colleagues from our streetscene teams and we will be using their caged vehicles to support collections.

Most materials for recycling are collected weekly, so please help the crews by only putting out containers that need emptying that week.  Flattening cardboard will also create more space in your blue bag.

If you have more than 1 black box, please separate recyclable materials as much as possible to help crews work quicker and reach more homes.

If recycling is not collected it can also be taken to the Household Waste Recycling Centre. There are hundreds of booking slots available on most days so book your slot to visit the Household Waste Recycling Centre here.

Thank you for your patience and season’s greetings from all the team.
