Almost 4,000 people took part in our recent consultation about the booking system at the Household Waste Recycling Centre – and the results are in!
Just under 60% of those who responded voted to get rid of the system.
So, from Monday 10 January 2022, residents will no longer have to book a slot to visit the centre in New Inn.
The booking system will remain over Christmas so the appropriate safety arrangements can be put in place in light of the Welsh Government announcements today on Covid alert levels. With the required social distancing arrangements and safe work practices being put in place we anticipate the site, will become much busier when the booking system is removed and we want everyone to remain safe.
Councillor Mandy Owen, Executive Member for the Environment, said: “I’d like to thank everyone who responded to the survey about the future of the booking system. Having nearly 4000 responses is unprecedented, so I’m thrilled with the response.
“As we said, the future of the booking system was in the hands of the residents, and the results have spoken. With nearly 60% of respondents saying they would like the booking system to go, our waste team are working hard with the HWRC contractors to make this happen as quickly and as safely as possible.
“We are continuing to monitor Covid and the new strain, and we have to be honest, if the situation changes and we are instructed by Welsh Government to change our operations, we will have to. But our plan for now is to get rid of the HWRC booking system by Monday 10 January.”
The HWRC is open over Christmas but slots are being booked up quickly.
Christmas opening times are:
Friday 24 - 10am-4pm
Saturday 25 – Closed
Sunday 26 – Closed
Monday 27 – 10am – 4pm
Tuesday 28 – 10am – 4pm
Wednesday 29 – 10am – 4pm
Thursday 30 – 10-4pm

Make sure you have booked your car or van slot at the HWRC and sorted your waste and recycling before turning up. Book your slot here
Restrictions within the site will remain and residents are still reminded to socially distance and only ask for assistance if it is vital, due to the current Covid situation. Due to social distancing this means that it is likely that queues will build up, but the safety of our staff and visitors is important.
Bag sorting is still in place at the site, so residents are reminded to sort their waste and recycling before their visit.
If residents do have any black bag waste they want to get rid of, they will be asked to open up the bags and show staff members that they do not contain any recycling. If they do, they will need to sort them on site or return home to do so.
