Working closely with partner agencies, Torfaen Council have an important role to play in the coming weeks and months to support residents whose employment situation has been affected by the impact of Coronavirus.
With the Government Job Retention Scheme coming to an end on 31 October 2020, this week Torfaen Council have launched a new #TorfaenAtWork campaign to help residents whose work has changed due to the ongoing pandemic.
The campaign looks to raise awareness of the various types of employment, financial and training support packages that are in place.
By cutting through the confusion around skills, jobs, and training, and linking people to the right services in double-quick time, the Council’s well-established employment and skills projects will become the first point of contact for many residents whose employment situation has been affected, or is about to change.
Executive Member for Economy, Skills & Regeneration, Councillor Joanne Gauden said: 'During these unprecedented times, it’s more important than ever that we collaborate with our partners to plan and implement a co-ordinated employment service that supports our residents.
We have a real opportunity now to work together and I am confident that we can respond positively to the challenges ahead and make a real difference.’
Executive Member for Children, Families & Communities, Councillor Fiona Cross said: 'With continued insecurities surrounding the local labour market, particularly with the build up to Christmas, we are aware that many residents will be facing uncertain futures.
The Councils Employment and Skills teams are highly experienced and are able to provide mentoring, free training and support for childcare and travel. They are available now and want to help as many residents as possible who have lost their jobs, or are at risk of redundancy, to find work.
We have effective packages of employment support on offer and I would urge our residents to utilise this during these challenging times.'
