Supported by the European Social Funded Communities for Work project, Cwmbran resident Danny Moreton has been able to realise his dream of owning his own business by launching ‘Happy Paws’, a local dog walking and pet sitting service.
Danny will be offering his dog walking services across Cwmbran and the surrounding areas at competitive prices, and has already received great feedback from customers praising his canine knowledge and compassionate nature.
Business planning started back in January 2020 and despite the Covid19 pandemic Danny was determined to launch his business this year.
Danny said “Launching my business during the pandemic has been a worry. Thankfully I can continue working with little human interaction and I follow safety measures and hygiene precautions. Some people are not able to walk their pets due to work commitments and vulnerable people do not always wish to venture out, so I am more than happy to help and walk their dogs for them."
Torfaen Communities for Work programme provided business advice, support and funding for essential equipment, and assisted Danny at every step of his business start-up journey.
He went on to say: “The help and support I have received from Communities For Work has been out of this world. Not only the funding but the communication and extra effort of the team to make my dream a reality. I am not sure I could have made this happen without them.
"I am so excited I have finally made my dream job come true! To mix my passion for the outdoors and exercise with my love of dogs, this truly is an amazing stepping stone in my life.”
Executive Member for Children, Families & Communities, Councillor Fiona Cross said: 'It is fantastic to hear of the self-employment successes of our residents in Torfaen. Given the current employment situation, self-employment can be a viable option for people with the right advice and support.
I am extremely proud of the effective support that Communities for Work has provided, which has been evident in establishing this business. There is a significant range of support available through the council for all aspects of employment such as mentoring, training and funding. I would urge anyone in Torfaen who is interested in self-employment or securing employment to get in touch with the team.
