A recent council report has approved improvements to CCTV in Pontypool.
Upgrades will be made to the existing CCTV systems to ensure that all cameras and the infrastructure are ‘evidence quality’ compliant.
In addition, four new cameras will be installed in the Civic Centre car park in Pontypool
A total of 24 cameras are currently monitored across Torfaen, including five in Blaenavon, nine in Pontypool, seven at the Riverside Car Park, one in Garndiffaith and two in Trevethin.
The council will allocate £65,500 to upgrade the existing and new cameras plus £13,150 for maintenance.
Executive Member for Corporate Governance & Performance, Councillor David Yeowell said, “The Council received requests from local community groups and the Community Council’s in Blaenavon and Pontypool to improve CCTV monitoring in Pontypool and the surrounding areas in response to instances of anti-social behaviour.
This new equipment will help reduce instances of crime and anti-social behaviour making the areas a safer place for everyone”
