Armed Forces Week 2020

Posted on: Monday 22 June 2020

Today we raise the Armed Forces Flag outside the Civic Centre to celebrate and honour the whole Armed Forces Community.

We remember the huge sacrifices and courageous actions taken by veterans that served both home and away and by the men and women who are currently serving.

Although this year we’re unable to hold our usual service beneath the flag, we are proud to be armed forces champions and will continue to support our veterans wherever we can.

Torfaen Armed Forces Champion and Blaenavon ward Councillor Alan Jones said,

‘Raising the flag during armed forces week shows this Councils commitment to the veterans, reservists and serving soldiers of Torfaen and their families. We must also remember the valuable work of the cadets in our county borough and the adult volunteers who give their time and expertise.

As part of our wider Armed Forces covenant, together with our partners, we strive to ensure our military community are not disadvantaged whilst serving and protecting our nation.’
