Torfaen council’s play service is encouraging families to celebrate and join in the fun on National Play Day.
This year, National Play Day organisers are encouraging people to ‘make some noise for play’ and people across the United Kingdom are asked to show their support for children’s play by joining in a ‘Big Clap/Big Noise’ on Wednesday, August 5 at 2pm. Torfaen’s play service will be encouraging communities to join in the Big Clap/Big Noise celebration along with the children and staff at the childcare settings across the borough.
The National Play Day campaign will provide a wealth of resources for families and neighbours to come out on their doorsteps to make some noise. For more information visit www.playday.org.uk
In addition to this, the play service in collaboration with local partners will be at two outdoor venues on National Play Day giving out free play resources. The play boxes contain a variety of different play equipment to encourage children to play at home.
Cllr Richard Clark, Torfaen’s Executive Member for Education, said: ‘Due to the current coivd-19 restrictions, we are unable to hold any large community events however we really want families to join the fun and there are many different ways for everyone to get involved in play. Families can pick up a box from outside the café area of the Pontypool Active Living Centre from 11am – 2pm. Play packs can also be picked up from the Cwmbran Community Council office on the day.'
