Toilets in Torfaen parks to re-open tomorrow

Posted on: Thursday 9 July 2020

Toilets at Cwmbran Boating Lake and Pontypool Park will be opened tomorrow for the public to use (Friday 10th July).

The council has been able to keep public toilets in Blaenavon and Pontypool town centre open during the COVID-19 restriction period, but had closed those in Pontypool Park, Cwmbran Boating Lake and Southfields. Whilst it will not be possible to open the toilets at Southfields, the others will be open from tomorrow.

Safeguarding measures will be in place to protect the public at all the toilets; including a recommended one in - one out access system, an enhanced cleansing regime, signage to explain the restricted access, social distancing and hand washing.

Inevitably this is likely to mean queuing at the busier toilets, particularly at Cwmbran Boating Lake, where we will need to reduce access along the path to achieve social distancing requirements. We would therefore ask for cooperation and understanding from users of the toilets.

Councillor Mandy Owen, Executive Member for Environment, said: “We appreciate the closure of these facilities has been inconvenient which is why we would like to thank everyone for your understanding and patience during this period of time.

“I would like to ask all users to follow the guidance provided at the facilities, along with the now well-known national guidance. I would also like to ask all users to treat the facilities with respect”.
