Vans and trailers can now book a slot to visit the Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC)

Posted on: Monday 6 July 2020

Following the introduction of the booking system for the HWRC we are pleased to announce that from Monday 13th July, vans and trailers will be able to visit the Household Waste Recycling Centre at New Inn daily between 1.30pm-3.30pm.

The rules for vans and trailers are the same and are simple; if you haven’t booked a slot you won’t be allowed into the site. We want to make sure that everyone who needs to visit the site can do so, and this will only happen if everyone follows the rules.

There will be a traffic management system in place using traffic lights to allow traffic to flow safely.

Our staff will not tolerate abuse which is why we are continuing to work with the Community Safety team, and Gwent Police. If you are abusive you will be asked to leave the queue/site and you may be arrested. The safety of everyone operating and visiting the site is of utmost importance, so please be patient.

To reduce your time spent at the HWRC please pre-sort your waste before leaving home, and if anyone in your household has symptoms of COVID19 or is currently shielding, please do not visit the HWRC.

Please observe social distancing when you visit, and take your own gloves or hand sanitiser with you as it will not be provided on site. Staff will not be able to assist with unloading vehicles either.

Councillor Mandy Owen, executive member for the environment, said: “We would once again like to thank residents for their patience. The new system in place at the HWRC is working well which is why we can now offer booking slots to those with vans/trailers.

“Unlike the car booking system, residents with vans/trailers can only book a slot by phoning Call Torfaen. This is because a van permit also needs to be purchased. Bookings must be prebooked, up to 7 days in advance so if you have a certain date in mind you will have to make sure you plan when to make your booking. Slots are booked on a first come first serve basis.”

The site will be open 7 days a week and will operate half hourly slots for vans and trailers between 1:30pm – 3:30pm.
