Changes to Torfaen library services

Posted on: Friday 18 December 2020

The final day to visit a Torfaen library to borrow books and use other library services will be Saturday 19th December.

All Torfaen library buildings will be closed to the public from Monday the 21st of December.

As during the last lockdown, a Request and Collect service will operate Monday to Saturday between 10am and 2pm from Cwmbran Library only. To use this service please phone 01633 647676.

The Library@Home service will also continue to operate for housebound customers.

The decision has been taken so that library staff can be redeployed to support the council’s Test, Trace and Protect (TTP) service.

Cllr Joanne Gauden, Torfaen’s Executive Member with responsibility for the Library Service, said: “The TTP service is a priority for the council, and the work of the service ensuring isolation is vital to reducing the transmission of COVID-19 in the community to protect the health of residents.”

“Our library staff can be redeployed quickly and have the transferable skills necessary to support contact tracing work which will ensure we contact residents professionally and efficiently.”

The decision to resume the physical library service will be made in line with the Welsh Government’s coronavirus control plan which puts Wales at level four alert from the 28th of December.
