Statement from Torfaen Council on the return to education in January

Posted on: Friday 18 December 2020

Following discussions with the Welsh Government and the WLGA, the new school term will start on 4th January for supported home learning in all Torfaen schools for the first week.

Any school which has planned INSET days on the first two days of this week have notified parents and will provide supported home learning from the 6th - 8th January.

Our expectation is that all Torfaen schools will be providing face-to-face learning for the majority of their pupils from Monday, 11th January.

Each school will make their own arrangements for vulnerable learners and the children of critical workers (including school staff) to attend school on or after the 6th of January.

Torfaen Council’s Executive Member for Education, Cllr Richard Clark, said: “Our plan for the  return to school in January will give parents some certainty as we break for the Christmas period. We know from our children and young people that they learn best when in the classroom receiving face-to-face learning so we must look to minimise disruption to their education. I must thank parents, teachers, school staff and all learners for their continued patience and perseverance to help keep our communities safe.”
