#SaluteOurForces - Armed Forces Week

Posted on: Tuesday 25 June 2019

This morning we honoured Armed Forces Week with a flag-raising ceremony at the civic centre.

The ceremony saw members of the armed forces, councillors and officers #SaluteOurForces, with a reading from Council Leader Anthony Hunt and Armed Forces Champion Cllr Alan Jones.

The aim of Armed Forces Week is to raise public awareness of the contribution made to the country by those who serve and have served in Her Majesty’s armed forces.

It also gives people an opportunity to show their support for the men and women who make up the armed forces community; from serving troops to service families, and veterans to cadets.

Standard Bearers were present from;

  • Blaenavon Royal British Legion
  • Pontnewydd Royal British Legion
  • Comrades of the Great War (Pontypool)
  • Veterans Association (Pontypool Branch)

Thomas Boor of Pontypool Salvation Army played Reveille on the bugle.
