Local law firm Watkins & Gunn have teamed up with Cwmffrwdoer Primary School as part of the 3rd annual Torfaen Enterprise Week initiative.
Building on their love of the outdoors and keen to make a difference, year 4 and 5 pupils (Dosbarth Aberdovey) at the school have chosen to focus on raising awareness around the importance of wildlife and the environment. The pupils are making a number of products to sell during Torfaen Enterprise Week in July that are suitable for a garden, encourage wildlife and create a relaxing environment for people to spend time in. They are hoping that gardeners, parents, outdoor and wildlife enthusiasts will buy their creations.
- Wildflower Seed Packets – to encourage bees and other creatures to the garden
- Bug Homes – to provide a safe shelter for all the mini beasts
- Wind Chimes – to create a relaxing ambience in the garden
Clive Thomas, Managing Partner at Watkins & Gunn recently spent time with pupils taking part in the project to help them understand more about running a business and the skills needed to ensure success. The business has also provided sponsorship money to help the pupils purchase materials and develop their products.
Clive said “This is such a great initiative. We loved going into the school and meeting the children to talk about running a business. They are all so passionate about their products and helping the environment. The video they have made is fabulous! We have invited the children to come to our office in Pontypool to showcase their products in our garden to help their sales.”
Year 4/5 Teacher Callum Phillips said “We believe this will be a successful enterprise project which builds on the concerns and issues at the forefront of the media surrounding wildlife, the environment, sustainability and climate change. People are becoming more conscious of the world around them and our products will enable people to help. The children have really enjoyed the enterprise project and they can’t wait to share the finished projects with everyone. They have acquired great business attributes from professionals in the local community and the overall experience.”
Torfaen Enterprise Week takes place at Pontypool Indoor Market during week commencing 8th July. The pupils from Cwmffrwdoer Primary School will be selling their products between 10am – 2pm on Thursday 11th July and will be donating 10% of all profits to the Gwent Wildlife Trust.
