Applications for the Welsh Government Funded Childcare Offer - small capital grants scheme are now open for all childcare providers in Torfaen.

The capital grant funding will enable settings to increase the number of places available, will help to improve the quality of the facilities and opportunities to lower the age range of the provision to include 3 and 4 year olds for some settings.

All settings registered with Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) that offer the Childcare Offer places for 3 and 4 year olds are eligible to apply.

Childcare providers who intend to offer this type of provision, or those that are in the process of applying for registration will also be eligible to apply.

This will include childminders, private and voluntary sector providers, and maintained settings offering day care, wrap around care and holiday play schemes.

In any one year the maximum amount that can be awarded to any one setting is:

  • £5,000 for childminders and those registered for 8 or fewer places
  • £7,500 for childcare providers registered for 9 to 15 places
  • £10,000 for childcare providers registered for 16+ places

Executive Member for Children, Families & Communities, Cllr Mandy Owen said, “This is a fantastic opportunity for all Childcare providers here in Torfaen. The funding will not only enable them to increase the number of Childcare Offer places for 3 and 4 year olds, but also to improve the quality of the facilities they offer.”
