Play workers help to create safer routes in communities

Torfaen council’s play workers and play volunteers have come together to enhance areas in Cwmbran for the benefit of local children.

The underpass at Northville playing fields and the old bandstand at Pontnewydd Park in Cwmbran have been repainted with colourful murals and images.

The work was done as part of an on-going programme to encourage children and young people to feel safer when using these routes to travel around their community.

Councillor Mandy Owen, chair of the Play Sufficiency Action Group, said: “By painting up these areas with bright and colourful designs we hope that children will feel safer using them to walk to school or to play in their local area.

“The play workers and volunteers have done an amazing job and I would like to thank them all for their hard work.”
