On October 1 2018 it will be ‘International Older People’s Day’. The theme this year is, ‘Older People who Champion Human Rights’, celebrating people who make a positive difference to other people’s lives.
Do you know someone in your community, a friend, relative, neighbour who is 60 years or older and striving to make a difference in our community? If so please let us know by submiting your nominations along with a short story to Catherine.Austin@torfaen.gov.uk. Torfaen would like to recognise their work & share their stories across social media and in a display at Cwmbran Library. Deadline is October 1 2018
One resident has already been nominated, Dave Mynott, who has worked as a volunteer for Torfaen Carer’s Centre for more than 11 years. His passion is working with carers and his aim is to reduce loneliness. As a volunteer at the centre he is a friendly familiar face, someone who will listen and helps residents find the information they need. But Dave has said ‘it’s not all a one way street’, he gets quite a bit out of his role and say's he needs to be busy and loves having a purpose in life.
