Wednesday 1 August is National Play Day and playscheme sites across Torfaen are celebrating it in style!
A wide range of playful activities are taking place to celebrate play and how integral it is for children and young people to access regular play experiences.
As well as a celebration of children’s right to play, Play Day is a campaign that highlights the importance of play in children’s lives. Play is essential for a child’s physical and mental health and provides so many benefits to their development.
This year’s theme is "Every Child has a Right to Play “which focuses on article 31 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child which recognises
"the rights of the child to rest and leisure, to engage in play and recreational activities appropriate to the age of the child and to participate freely in cultural life and the arts" (UNCRC 1989).
With the above in mind, Torfaen Play Service strive to work with partners to ensure that all play provisions are inclusive to all. This summer, 163 children who require 1-1 support are attending the playschemes across their communitities.
Torfaen are governed by the Play Sufficiency Action Plan which ensures that play is championed across all strategic agendas.
