A new catering business venture has opened in Pontypool this week. Front Row Food is a cafe situated on Pontnewynydd Industrial Estate and has been opened by local resident Johnathan Gibbs. John who is 35 and from Abersychan received support with planning, marketing and promotion through Torfaen Councils Communities for Work + programme, which has given the business a kickstart to success.

John has huge experience in the catering trade, having been an area manager for many years he decided to try his hand at self-employment and recognise a long standing dream of running his own business.  John worked tirelessly to secure the premises and completely revamped the inside of the building, installing all new equipment to deliver a full café experience for local people. A dream that has become a reality after works culminated in a grand opening on Wednesday this week at the estate.

John said “It has been a long standing dream of mine to get this business up and running and I’m fully committed to looking to support local people and local business needs.

I very much look forward to establishing a quality service here in Pontypool. Thank you to so many people who have helped me get to this point and I look forward to welcoming new customers in the coming months”

Torfaen Council executive member for Business, Tourism, Leisure and Culture, Councillor Alan Jones attended the opening along with former Pontypool and Wales rugby International Iestyn Thomas to give the business their support.

Councillor Alan Jones said: “This is another fantastic outcome for the area, particularly Pontnewynydd and businesses that are situated on the estate. The support provided by our Communities for Work+ team is yet another shining example of the fantastic work that takes place to ensure that local people acquire local employment.

I would like to congratulate John on the business opening and wish him all the success with this new venture, I am sure the business will do extremely well”.

Richard Murphy, Employer Engagement Officer for Communities for Work + said “It has been a pleasure to work with John and to see how his vision has come to fruition. He has worked so hard to get this venture going and the café looks great. Congratulations to all concerned on this great new business in Torfaen”.
