A business owner from Torfaen is celebrating the fourth anniversary since opening her business in Pontypool.
Lauren Morse started 'Happy Hands with Lauren' in Pontypool, back in July 2014 offering music and movement sessions for the under 5s.
Mrs Morse previously worked as an operations manager for a Cwmbran firm for 12 years but grew tired of working long hour hours and missing out on quality time with her first child Ruben.
Deciding to make a change she took on the Pontypool franchise for the Cwmbran-based Happy Hands in 2014 and began offering baby and toddler classes on the weekend, and in local nurseries during her lunch breaks. After having her second child Oliver in 2015 she decided to run Happy Hands full time.
She said: “I was working long hours and realised that I hardly ever saw my son so I decided something had to change. The early days were tough – sometimes no one came - but I kept working and growing the classes, and about two years in I felt like I had cracked it and that the business would be sustainable.”
She now attracts parents who travel from across Gwent to the Pontypool Active Living Centre to attend her classes, and has recently expanded to take on an additional franchise covering Abergavenny.
She said: “I truly love my job - no matter what is going on in my life, everything is ok when the families walk through the door for a class. I love making children smile, seeing them learning and developing as the months pass. I am passionate about supporting parents too. I had terrible post-natal depression after my first son was born and I want to create an environment that is caring and supportive, and makes parents feel welcome.”
Rhiannon Thomas travels from Newport to Pontypool every week with her son Albie to take part in the classes. She said: “We come from Newport every week as Lauren is by far the best around. She is really friendly, welcoming and great with the children, and Albie adores her.”
Jodie Gibbons lives in Pontypool and attends with her daughter, Sapphire. She said: "Not only has Happy Hands been good for Sapphire, but also for me, giving me a little push to get out the house a bit more. We absolutely love it, Lauren is fab with all the children and always makes me feel at ease.”
Councillor Alan Jones, executive member for business said: “It is fantastic to see a local business thriving and going from strength to strength. Lauren has become a valuable member of the community here in Pontypool and I wish her well for the future.”
Lauren runs her classes from Pontypool Active Living Centre and classes are also available throughout Torfaen. You can find your nearest class at www.happyhands.club
