Posted on: Friday 17 August 2018

In the national performance benchmark of A level A* - E, 98.2% of Torfaen pupils gained grades A* to E which is up from 97.1% last year and nearly 1% above the Welsh average.

The percentage of pupils gaining A* or A grades also increased to 18.9%, up from 17.1% last year.

The level 3 threshold including both A Level outcomes and recognised level 3 vocational qualifications dropped slightly from 95.1 to 93.9.

Cllr David Yeowell, executive member for Education said: ‘It’s pleasing that 98.2% of all our pupils gained at least one A* to E grade and once again there have been some truly outstanding individual performances.

‘From speaking to students on results day it is really exciting to listen to their enthusiasm as they prepare to start a variety of world class courses in the top universities in the country.

‘I must thank all the teachers and pupils for their commitment and hard work in achieving these results and I wish all our young people every success in the future, whether entering university, starting work or beginning an apprenticeship.’
