Supporting People

Supporting People is a government funded programme which is committed to providing a better quality of life for vulnerable people by supporting them to live independently.

The Supporting People Programme in Torfaen plans, funds and monitors supported housing and housing related support services for vulnerable persons in the borough. This housing-related support is available to vulnerable people in their own homes or accessed through hostels, sheltered housing or other specialised supported housing.

There are a variety of supporting people schemes throughout Torfaen helping more than 2300 vulnerable people maintain their independence at any time

Some examples of the support funded by Supporting People:

  • help with money issues and claiming benefits
  • life skills training
  • form filling
  • emotional support
  • provision of emergency alarms
  • help to access education, training or work
