Aneurin Bevan Health Board

On October 1st 2009, Aneurin Bevan Health Board replaced Gwent NHS Healthcare Trust and the five former Gwent local health boards, although a Locality Office has been maintained in each borough.

Aneurin Bevan Health Board is now responsible for the delivery of health care services to more then 600,000 people living in the Gwent area. It runs three major acute hospitals, eighteen community hospitals and a range of specialist health centres and local clinics. It also ensures that primary care facilities, like GP surgeries, dentists, pharmacies and optometric services, are available, as well as services for people with mental health problems or learning disabilities.

Medication Management

When given new medication, you should check a number of things with your pharmacist; is it the same as previous brands, how will it interact with other medicines, what are the side effects? Pharmacists can carry out a Medicines Use Review (MUR) and you should ask for these on a regular basis to ensure you are getting the best out of the prescribed medicines and are not taking prescriptions for drugs you are not using. Inhalers are often not taken properly and your pharmacist can demonstrate how to use it effectively so that you are receiving the maximum benefit. For more information on Medication Management visit www.wales.nhs.uk.
