Rural Development Plan Projects
Torfaen Rural Development Team was successful in securing funding for 8 projects that ran between 2007 and 2014:
Axis 3
The project involved the restoration and adaptation of the Grade II* Listed Manor house and grounds. The site will become a local attraction showcasing the historic significance of the Manor and its surroundings in the context of rural heritage. The site and its activities will have a strong focus on community use and will become a local asset.
Phase 2 of the Restoration of Llanyrafon Manor Rural Heritage Centre
The project completed the restoration of Llanyrafon Manor as a Rural Heritage Centre and tourism gateway for the Borough of Torfaen, to represent and conserve a rural way of life which is significant to the areas cultural, built and community heritage.
Axis 4
The Branching Out Fund
A project that aimed to develop the profitability and sustainability of new and existing organisations through a programme of three grant schemes:
- Business Creation & Development
- Farm Diversification
- Rural Tourism
Rural Skills & Training
Linked closely to the Branching Out Fund, people living and working in rural wards were offered funding to gain new skills and qualifications. The aim was to improve employability, occupational mobility, and earning potential.
A Taste of Torfaen
Supported farmers, local producers, rural business and social enterprises to generate projects and services from the land through:
- Grant support of up to £3,000
- Support and advice to; increase production and new business opportunities; to set up new community enterprises; to support financial planning and fundraising; to develop marketing and networking
- A Producer Network to engage producers and add value to local produce
- Festivals & Events to help promote local produce
Community Foodie
A co-operation project between Bridgend, Vale of Glamorgan and Torfaen which aimed to bring food growing back to the heart of the community. It engaged and supported local people in the growing of food by encouraging and facilitating joint working between land owners and local people, seeking alternative uses for underused land, developing horticultural skills through shared knowledge and expertise, increase the amount of produce grown locally.
