Coronavirus Updates - Key Worker Eligibility

Last updated Thursday 16 April 2020 at 16:35

Eligibility for pre-school childcare, primary and secondary support is:

Parents who are employed as specific key workers. Where one parent is a key worker but the other parent is not then the other parent should provide safe alternative arrangements at home when possible.

For children who have complex learning needs or a statement of special educational need and attend mainstream schools, the offer of a safe, secure environment is available for them if their parents are defined by Welsh Government as key workers. The type of educational provision which is ordinarily available in school will not be available at this time. Parents/carers are requested to give any relevant details regarding needs of their child and risks on registration.

We are able to consider applications from all of the key worker groups set out by the UK government:

  • Health and Social Care
  • Education and Care
  • Key public services
  • Local and national government
  • Food and other necessary goods
  • Public safety and national security
  • Transport
  • Utilities, communication and financial services

Further details about the jobs included under these headings can be found at www.gov.uk.

The Government’s advice remains clear that we should all adhere to the following key principles:

  • If it is at all possible for children to be at home, then they should be
  • If a child needs specialist support, is deemed vulnerable by TCBC or has a parent who is a key worker, then a safe secure environment will be available for them
  • Parents should not rely for childcare from those who are advised to be in the stringent social distancing category such as grandparents, friends, or family members with underlying conditions
  • Parents should also do everything they can to ensure children are not mixing socially in a way which can continue to spread the virus. They should observe the same social distancing principles as adults
