Early years children

Torfaen Council has a range of Welsh-language education provisions from baby and toddler age through to secondary school.

Next week, the team who supports early years education is holding a Welsh Medium Showcase at the Congress Theatre to help parents understand the options available.

The free event will run from 10am until 12pm on Saturday 23 September and is open to all parents with children birth age up to 11 years old.

Lots of fun activities will be on offer for the whole family to take part in, including Welsh singing, Welsh story time sessions, face painting and balloon modelling.

The Welsh Medium Showcase forms part of Torfaen Council’s commitment to support Welsh Government’s policy to have a million Welsh speakers by 2050.

Torfaen Council Executive Member for Children, Families and Education, Councillor Richard Clark, said: “More and more parents can testify that choosing Welsh medium education for their child has been a positive and worthwhile experience and an advantage when starting in work.

“As a parent, deciding on your child’s education will be one of the most important decisions you’ll make.

“Our Welsh Medium Showcase event will bring together Welsh medium childcare providers, schools, and key partners to engage with parents and provide valuable insights into Welsh medium educational options and what that could mean for their family.”

In the meantime, you can check out the council’s Being Bilingual in Torfaen booklet which should help answer some of your questions and let you know why it’s great to be bilingual.
