Beware of scam callers targeting Lifeline users

Posted on: Thursday 9 November 2023

Torfaen Council’s Assistive Technology Team has received reports that some residents across Wales have been targeted by scam callers who claim to be from the council or Lifeline service.

These callers are asking Lifeline users to provide bank details, over the telephone, to pay for a digital upgrade of their equipment.

Please be aware that this is a scam and do not give out any personal or financial information to these callers.

The Council's Assistive Technology Team will never call to ask for payment for equipment upgrades – this is covered by the annual service charge.

If you receive a suspicious call, please hang up immediately and report it to the police on 101 or Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040.

You can also contact the Assistive Technology Team, if you have any concerns about potential scam calls, on 01495 762200.

Please share this message with your friends and family who use the Lifeline service and help us to stop these fraudsters.
