Last month, Her Majesty The Queen became the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years of service to the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms and the Commonwealth.
To celebrate this unprecedented anniversary, events and initiatives will take place throughout the year, culminating in a four-day UK bank holiday weekend from Thursday 2 to Sunday 5 June.
The bank holiday will provide an opportunity for communities and people throughout the United Kingdom to come together to celebrate the historic milestone.
Torfaen is gearing up to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with a range of events, activities and projects that will benefit the whole borough.
Street parties
Applications for road closures will be considered based on safety, suitability of the road and other closures in the area.

The deadline for initial road closure applications is Tuesday 3 May.
The Queen’s Green Canopy
The Queen’s Green Canopy is a unique tree planting initiative which invites people from across the United Kingdom to ‘plant a tree for the Jubilee’.
Throughout March, the council, with help from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, planted three trees in the borough.
Beech trees were planted and plaques erected in Pontypool Park and at the Boating Lake in Cwmbran.
A plaque was also installed at the tree planted by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at the World Heritage Centre in Blaenavon.
Queen’s Jubilee Beacon
The Jubilee Beacons is one of the official events of the Platinum Jubilee. Thousands of beacons will be lit by communities, charities and groups throughout the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and UK Overseas Territories.
On the evening of Thursday 2 June, Torfaen’s beacons will be lit at 9pm from the top to the bottom of the borough. The public will be invited to attend in recognition of the Queen’s long and selfless service.
